As an athlete or active individual you may have heard of "ART" or Active Release Techniques. It is a soft tissue management system. It was developed by a Sports Chiropractor, Dr. P Michael Leahy, to help Chiropractors and other manual therapists address injuries of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves.
There are over 500 specific ART® movements, and all providers must attend a re-certification course every 12 months. The Chiropractors at GRSM are full body certified ART providers.

How does ART work?
Soft tissue injury can occur in 3 ways:
As a result, scar tissue can form between layers of tissue. Overtime, muscles can become weak, nerves can be trapped and movement of tissues can be reduced. The result is often loss of strength, decreased range of motion, and pain.
These injuries often occur in a cyclical nature in which the results of an injury continue to result in further injury until the cycle is broken. We call this The Cumulative Injury Cycle.
ART® interrupts the Cumulative Injury Cycle by breaking up scar tissue, resulting in:
What can I expect from a treatment?
During an ART® treatment, your chiropractor will use his hands to finds and evaluate the texture, tension, and movement of the tissues. Any abnormal tissues are treated by combining directed tension with specific patient movements.
The first visit will consist of an assessment which may take 40-60 minutes. Subsequent visits will be 20 minutes. Remember to bring shorts and a t-shirt.
