4 Weeks to the Holidays - Avoiding the Buffet Beast

Let’s be real.  Life is for living and a little indulging in your holiday favourites is something we all look forward to.  However, to avoid a total munching meltdown, here are some cool tips to avoid crying on the scale in January.

  1. Eat a snack before going to a party.  Something healthy that leaves room for some favourites but doesn’t let your stomach think for you.
  2. Start the party with raw veggies or plain seafood...it will take the edge off your inner snack demons.
  3. Avoid foods you can have anytime like chips or boxed cookies.  Instead, go with some seasonal favs and thing you only get a chance to eat once a year.
  4. Don’t hang out near the buffet table.  Enough said, find a place on the other side of the room to hang out.  I recommend the mistletoe area but that’s just me.
  5. Hold your drink in your dominant hand.  It makes a mindless dive for the mixed nut bowl harder.
  6. Be smart with your liquid calories and drink lots of water.  Mixers like pop and egg nog will make you calorie count skyrocket.
  7. Weigh yourself everyday (except maybe on Christmas Day).  Nothing motivates like knowing the scale awaits you the next morning.

Indulge (a little) and enjoy the season (a lot)!
